THE BASICS You will

-          Disconnect a round plug from the trunk lock actuator and connect it to the keyless system. (Picture # 2)

-       Connect a Negative (-)  paddle connetor to the Trunk Light for power (Picture # 6)

-         Plug the RED Positive (+) plug into a paddle connector in the Trunk Light to supply 12 volts power (Picture # 7)

-       If you choose, solder or wire-tap ONE wire to the taillight plug to flash the lights (Not necessary to lock the car or control the factory alarm).

ACTUALLY DOING IT

FIRSTLY, disconnect the car battery or remove fuse #12, which controls the central locking in the engine compartment.

Remove the interior plastic or carpet lining from the trunk on the passenger side. (right Side) It should pull out from the top fairly easily.

In the trunk lid of the W201, you will see the key lock in the center, and to the right of the lock, connected with a long metal rod, you will see the ‘Lock Actuator’.(Picture # 1). If you use a flashlight, you will see a round plastic wire connector plugged into the lock actuator from the top, and a yellow plastic vacuum line connected to the bottom. (Picture # 2). You will un-plug this round electrical connector to the actuator, and re-plug the cable into the Keyless entry control box, after which the Keyless entry will control the trunk channel.

Start by removing the two 8 mm screws holding the lock actuator in place, so the actuator is loose and free to move around. Leave the actuator in place. (On some later model w201 chassis, there is a small plastic cover protecting the actuator and metal rod).

Now the actuator is loose and free to move, you can remove the round plastic wiring plug (Picture # 2), usually clear in color), from the trunk lock actuator. It is jammed in tight, and hard to get to. Also, there is a plastic security clip on the side of the actuator which holds the round wiring plug in place. You need to bend this clip back while trying to separate the round wire plug from the lock actuator. Pull on the plastic body of the plug. Do not pull by the wires, as you may break them. (On newer models, the plug is a black right angle 90-degree plug, as illustrated also with a security clip.). Using long-nose pliers will make this process easier.  If you break the security clip, it’s OK  (If you experience difficulty, then dismantle the metal rod from the actuator by pushing the piston of the vacuum actuator inwards, then whilst holding it in the inward position, pull out the metal rod firmly with your other hand.)

Re-mount the actuator on the rear trunk lid with the two 8 mm screws when finished.

Re-locate the round three-pin plug and cable that was previously connected to the trunk actuator, to the vicinity of the passenger side trunk hinge, so the connector and cable have sufficient length to resides on the sill side of the trunk hinge. (Picture # 8)

NOTE: You can mount the keyless control box inside the First-Aid box instead of underneath. Cut the V on the side.

Prepare the First-Aid kit on the rear sill of the car, for mounting the Keyless control box. First remove the plastic First-Aid box by pushing it upwards into the cabin from inside the trunk. (There are some little pressure clips holding it in on the sides). Using some side cutters or a sharp knife, cut a small v-shape into the rim of the First-Aid plastic box as indicated in Picture #4 & #5, for the antenna to enter the box.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you line up the Mulit-Pin connector as you plug it in.

Plug the Multi-Pin connector into the Keyless control box.

Using strong Double-Sided tape, mount the Keyless control box on the First aid box as indicated in (Picture # 3 & 5), so the thick BLACK antenna wire sticks up into the First-Aid box through the V-shaped hole you made. Re-mount the First-Aid box in its hole on the rear sill of the car.

From the keyless control box run the thin BLACK (-) wire to the chassis mount screw for the Fuel door actuator, or connect to any screw on the car chassis that is grounded. (Picture # 6)

From the keyless control box, run the RED (+) wire up the passenger side trunk hinge and all the way to the Trunk Light, hiding the cable under the support channels. Using a paddle doubler, connect the RED wire to the positive side (Red) of the trunk light. (Pic # 7)

From the keyless control box, run the Round three-pin plug to the trunk hinge, and connect it to the three-pin plug that was previously connected to the trunk lock actuator.  (Picture # 8)

IMPORTANT: Make sure you line the two plugs up correctly as you connect it. There are two flat surfaces inside the plugs you need to line up (See illustration above)

Using wire-ties or electrical tape, tie the RED wire and the Round three-pin cable to the trunk hinge. (Picture # 8).

Run the PINK /ORANGE wire, along the passenger side wall to the tail light connector and connect it to Pin # 6 (Picture # 5) (See Light Install Insturctions)

Re-connect the car battery, or re-install fuse # 12 and close the doors, trunk and hood.

Now test the central locking is working. (You can check your alarm later, but it is also working now !)Push the lock button on the remote control (Button # 1), and the car should centrally lock.

************************************

FINDER FUNCTION:  By pushing the FINDER button #3 on the remote, the parking lights will illuminate and flash for 30 seconds to assist finding the car in a crowded parking lot at night.TRUNK-POP FUNCTION: The BLUE / BLACK Stripe wire from the keyless control box is for a possible TRUNK-POP function. To operate, push the Un-lock button # 2 for three seconds. However Mercedes trunks don’t pop, so there’s no reason to install it, but if you have another use for it, you could use it. The BLUE wire sends a negative (-) control signal. You must use an external12-Volt relay for this output.

USING YOUR CAR KEYS:  If you LOCK or UN-LOCK the car with your mechanical key, you may have to push the UN-LOCK and then the LOCK buttons on the keyless remote to cycle the system, as it sometimes gets confused if you use the mechanical key.

If you ever have a problem with the system, remove the fuse “12” for 10 seconds and then re-install, or disconnect your car battery and re-connect. This will re-initiate the vacuum pump and  keyless.

PROGARMMING ADDITIONAL REMOTES: Up to 6 remotes can be programmed on the Aussie Max Plus. To program additional remotes; open the Keyless control box by removing the four Philips head screws. On the PC board inside, move the BLACK jumper plug from it’s current position (P2) to the Programming Position (P1). (See illustration). The parking lights will flash once to indicate it is learning.  Push the LOCK button on the remote control, and the remote is programmed. Re-position the Black jumper plug to its original position when done. Repeat the same procedure for each additional remote to be programmed.
