To install, the Trunk Light must be working, and you will need a 10 mm and 8 mm wrench.

THE BASICSyou will:

-          Remove the Trunk Lock by removing two 10 mm screws inside the trunk lid (Picture # 2)

-          Disconnect a rectangular plug from the trunk lock actuator and plug it into the keyless control box. (Pic # 2,3)

-          Connect the Negative (-) cable from the keyless box to an existing screw in the trunk (Picture # 9)

-          Plug the RED Positive (+) plug into a paddle connector in the Trunk Light to supply 12 volts power (Pic # 10A)

-          If you choose, solder or wire-tap ONE wire to the taillight plug to flash the lights (Picture # 12A) (Not necessary to remotely lock the car or control the factory alarm).

ACTUALLY DOING IT you will:

FIRSTLY, disconnect the car battery, or remove the fuse that controls the central locking in the engine compartment.

Remove the interior carpet lining from the trunk lid which is held in by small plastic compression grommets. Remove the center of the grommet first before removing the base. Also remove the plastic cable cover on the passenger side trunk hinge.

Remove the carpet lining on the passenger sidewall. (Right) The carpet pulls out from the top.

In the trunk lid of the W202, you will see the key lock in the center. (Picture # 1). If you use a flashlight, you will see a rectangular plastic wire connector plugged into the lock actuator. and a yellow plastic vacuum line. (Picture # 2). You will un-plug this rectangular 3-pin electrical connector, (Picture # 3) to the actuator, and re-plug that cable into the Keyless entry control box, after which the Keyless entry will control the trunk channel of the central locking system

Start by removing the two 10 mm screws holding the lock actuator in the trunk lid, and remove it. (Picture # 2). Be extremely careful not to stress the white nylon connector attaching the yellow vacuum tube to the lock. It breaks very easily if stressed.

Un-plug the rectangular 3-pin plug from the lock actuator (Picture # 3)

Re-mount the lock actuator on the trunk lid with the two 10 mm screws when finished.

Next mount the Keyless control box in the trunk underneath the rear sill, behind the passenger side stereo speaker. There you will find a small cavity with a metal cross member to which you will attach the control box with a Pull-Tie and some Velcro tape. (Picture # 4)

First, feed a long Pull-Tie across the top of the metal cross member. Then stick the Velcro tape to the same metal cross member, and also the Keyless control box.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure you line up the Multi-Pin connector as you plug it into the keyless control box. With the Multi-Pin connector and wiring harness already attached to the Keyless control box, feed the thick BLACK antenna wire into the cavity hole, so the antenna is sitting above the sheet metal and below the interior carpet lining of the rear sill. (Picture # 5). Once you have the antenna located, attach the keyless control box to the Velcro tape on the metal cross member. Then as extra support, wrap the Pull-tie around the length of the control box, and through the center of the cables on the multi-pin connector. Lightly tighten the pull-tie closed. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the PULL-TIE, or you will stress the Multi-Pin connector and motherboard inside the unit. (Picture # 6).

Connect the thin BLACK wire (-), to the 8 mm chassis screw that supports the Fuel Tank lock actuator near the trunk hinge.(Picture #7 ).

Run the RED (+) cable to the trunk light, and using the Paddle Doubler, connect it to the (+) Positive side (Red) of the light (Picture #8 ).

Run the cables with the RECTANGULAR three-pin plug up the passenger side trunk hinge (right), and through the cavities of the trunk lid, to the rectangular three-pin connector that was previously connected to the trunk lock / actuator. (Picture #9 ).

Make sure to make a small loop of loose cable at the trunk hinge to allow for movement of the hinge. (If the cables are a little short, you can make extra length by releasing some of the cable supports around the trunk lock and trunk light switch.)

Run the PINK /ORANGE wire, along the passenger side wall to the tail light connector and connect it to Pin # 6 (Picture # 5) (See Light Install Insturctions)

Re-connect the car battery, or re-install the engine compartment fuse controlling the central locking. Close the doors, trunk and hood.

Now test the central locking is working. (You can check your alarm later, but it is also working now !)

Push the lock button on the remote control, and the car should centrally lock. (Button # 1 on Smart-Key remote).

FINDER FUNCTION:  By pushing the FINDER button #3 on the remote, the parking lights will illuminate and flash for 30 seconds to assist finding the car in a crowded parking lot at night.

TRUNK-POP FUNCTION: The BLUE / BLACK Stripe wire from the keyless control box is for a possible TRUNK-POP function. To operate, push the Un-lock button # 2 for three seconds. However Mercedes trunks don’t pop, so there’s no reason to install it, but if you have another use for it, you could use it. The BLUE wire sends a negative (-) control signal. You must use an external12-Volt relay for this output.

USING YOUR CAR KEYS:  If you LOCK or UN-LOCK the car with your mechanical key, you may have to push the UN-LOCK and then the LOCK buttons on the keyless remote to cycle the system, as it sometimes gets confused if you use the mechanical key.

If you ever have a problem with the system, remove the central locking  fuse in the engine compartment for 10 seconds and then re-install, or disconnect your car battery and re-connect. This will re-initiate the vacuum pump and keyless.

PROGARMMING ADDITIONAL REMOTES: Up to 6 remotes can be programmed on the Aussie Max Plus. To program additional remotes; open the Keyless control box by removing the four Philips head screws. On the PC board inside, move the BLACK jumper plug from it’s current position (P2) to the Programming Position (P1). (See illustration). The parking lights will flash once to indicate it is learning.  Push the LOCK button on the remote control, and the remote is programmed. Re-position the Black jumper plug to its original position when done. Repeat the same procedure for each additional remote to be programmed.
