THE BASICS You will
- Disconnect a round plug from the trunk lock actuator and connect it to the keyless system. (Picture # 2)
- Connect a Negative (-) ground wire to an existing screw in the chassis (car body) for power (Picture # 4)
- Connect a paddle plug to the Trunk Light to give the unit 12 volts power (Picture # 6)
- If you choose, solder or wire-tap ONE wire to the passenger side taillight plug to flash the parking lights (Not necessary to lock the car or control the factory alarm) See w126 instructions for picture of the taillight plug. (Only the passenger side tail lights will flash on a r107 and w126)
ACTUALLY DOING IT
(If you purchased the Aussie ASSEMBLE YOURSELF version, first read the section on MAX-PLUS assembly).
To install the keyless control box, your Trunk Light must be working, and you will need the following tools.
- 8mm wrench or pliers are necessary to remove two screws on the lock actuator.
- Small flat head screwdriver (Jewelers type), to remove plastic grommets in trunk/tailgate.
- Long-Nose pliers and Flash Light are handy, but not necessary.
- A Flat head screw driver is handy, but not necessary.
FIRSTLY, Disconnect the car battery, or remove fuse # 15 which controls the central locking.
Along the back wall of your trunk, you will find a piece of Mercedes carpet which is attached to the floor of the trunk on either side by two round black plastic clips. The clips are actually expansion plugs. Remove the center, and then remove the expansion sleeve. Un-clip the carpet from these clips on the rear wall, and lift the carpet up to reveal the trunk lock, which is in the center, and the vacuum actuator, which is located off center to the left of the lock. (Picture # 1). The actuator is a black box with a metal pole sticking into it. If you use a flashlight, you will see a yellow vacuum line connected to the top of the actuator, and a round plastic wire connector, plugged into the bottom. This round electrical connector is what you need to un-plug and re-plug the Keyless entry control box into. (Pic # 2 ).
Start by removing the two 8 mm screws holding the lock actuator in place, so the actuator is loose and free to move around. (Leave the actuator in place).
Now the actuator is loose and free to move, you can remove the round plastic wiring plug (usually clear in color), from the trunk lock actuator. It is jammed in tight, and hard to get to. Also, there is a plastic security clip on the side of the actuator which holds the round wiring plug in place. You need to bend this clip back while trying to separate the round wire plug from the lock actuator. Pull on the plastic body of the plug. Do not pull by the wires, as you may break them. (If you break the security clip, it’s OK). Using long-nose pliers will make this process easier. Also, you can use a screwdriver as a lever to bend back the plastic security clip, which holds the round plug in place. (On newer models, there is no security clip and the plug is a black right angle 90-degree plug, as illustrated.)
Once you have separated the round electrical connector, re-plug the Keyless entry control box into the cable plug that was previously connected to the actuator.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you line the two plugs up correctly as you connect it. There are two flat surfaces inside the plugs you need to line up. (See illustration on next page).

Hide the Keyless control box inside the cavity of the rear trunk wall next to the actuator (Picture # 3). Run the RED the PINK and BLUE/BLACK stripe cables along the rear wall (along with the existing cables) and under the passenger side taillight. (For parking light confirmation.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you line up the Multi-Pin connector on the wire harness as you plug it into the control box
The thick BLACK wire is the antenna; stretch it out straight inside the back wall of the trunk, making sure it does not interfere with the lock or actuator mechanism.
The Keyless control box will just sit in the rear wall being held in place by the carpet. (The Blue 10A fuse will likely never blow, but you can install it in such a way, it is still visible and accessible.)
Re-mount the actuator on the rear trunk wall with the two 8 mm screws.
Connect the thin BLACK negative cable from the Keyless Control box to one of the screws directly below the control box in the rear trunk wall. Do NOT use the 8mm screws on the trunk lock actuator, as they are mounted in plastic and non-conductive. (Picture # 4)
Run the RED cable behind the car battery and up to the trunk hinge. Use wire-ties to attach the RED wire to the trunk hinge. (Picture 5)
Feed the RED cable through the trunk lid cavities until the RED cable arrives at the trunk light and crimp with pliers the paddle connector on the end of the wire (Cut to correct length). (Picture # 6)
Take the paddle doubler provided, and place it on the trunk light fixture terminal that has the POSITIVE cable (Red Strip). Now re-connect the POSITIVE wire (Red Stripe) from the car chassis/light fixture to the paddle doubler together with the RED wire from the keyless control box. Make sure the wires and paddle connectors do not protrude or sit to high, because if they touch the car chassis it will short out and blow your fuses.
Run the PINK /ORANGE wire, along the passenger side wall to the tail light connector and connect it to Pin # 6 (Picture # 5) (See Light Install Insturctions)
Re-connect the car battery, or re-install fuse # C and close the doors, trunk and hood.
Now test the central locking is working. (You can check your alarm later, but it is also working now !)
Push the lock button on the remote control (Button # 1), and the car should centrally lock.
FINDER FUNCTION: By pushing the FINDER button #3 on the remote, the parking lights will illuminate and flash for 30 seconds to assist finding the car in a crowded parking lot at night.
TRUNK-POP FUNCTION: The BLUE / BLACK Stripe wire from the keyless control box is for a possible TRUNK-POP function. To operate, push the Un-lock button # 2 for three seconds. However Mercedes trunks don’t pop, so there’s no reason to install it, but if you have another use for it, you could use it. The BLUE wire sends a negative (-) control signal. You must use an external12-Volt relay for this output.
USING YOUR CAR KEYS: If you LOCK or UN-LOCK the car with your mechanical key, you may have to push the UN-LOCK and then the LOCK buttons on the keyless remote to cycle the system, as it sometimes gets confused if you use the mechanical key.
If you ever have a problem with the system, remove the fuse “C” for 10 seconds and then re-install, or disconnect your car battery and re-connect. This will re-initiate the vacuum pump and keyless.
PROGARMMING ADDITIONAL REMOTES: Up to 6 remotes can be programmed on the Aussie Max Plus. To program additional remotes; open the Keyless control box by removing the four Philips head screws. On the PC board inside, move the BLACK jumper plug from it’s current position (P2) to the Programming Position (P1). (See illustration). The parking lights will flash once to indicate it is learning. Push the LOCK button on the remote control, and the remote is programmed. Re-position the Black jumper plug to its original position when done. Repeat the same procedure for each additional remote to be programmed.
