.

.

FIRSTLY, Disconnect the car battery, or remove fuse “C’ which controls the central locking..

300-500E/D/CE Sedan Models:

Under the taillight assembly on the passenger side, there is a small cavity, where you will be hiding the Keyless entry transceiver. (Picture # 1). Bend the plastic trunk lining back under the taillight, and you will see sufficient area to hide the Keyless control box. (On newer models this lining cover is MB carpet). You will NOTneed to remove this plastic / carpet cover. However the flat plastic cover at the very back covering the rear wall needs removing. This is where the trunk lock and actuator is hidden.

.

On newer 88-95 models.

Securing the rear plastic panel in place, you will find eight little rectangular plastic expansion grommets, four on top, and two either side. (Two of the grommets may be hidden under the Red Metalic warning lables around the trunk lock).   Remove these expansion grommets with a small flat head screwdriver. Each grommet consists of two rectangular pieces, one inside the other. Once you have removed all eight grommets, (16 pieces), you will be able to remove the plastic cover, lifting it upwards.

Older 1986-88 models have six plastic clips on the inside rear wall you bend to release.  Release all six clips, while lifting the plastic panel upwards from the bottom.

Now that you have the rear interior panel removed, you will see the trunk lock mounted in the center, and off to one side, linked by a metal rod, is the “Actuator.’ (Picture # 2) The actuator has connected to it a vacuum line (possibly yellow) and an electrical cable connection via a round plug (usually clear color). (Picture # 3). You will be un-plugging this cable from the lock actuator and re-plugging it into the Aussie Keyless control box The round plug is secured in place by a plastic security clip which you need to bend back. (On newer models, there is no security clip and the plug is a black right angle 90-degree plug, as illustrated.)

To prepare for releasing the plug, remove the two 8 mm screws, which secures the actuator to the rear trunk/tailgate wall. (Leave the actuator in place). Now the actuator is loose and free to move around, you can un-plug the round plastic wiring plug from the actuator, There is a plastic security clip on the side of the actuator which holds the round wiring plug in place. You need to bend this clip back while trying to separate the round wire plug from the actuator. Pull on the plastic body of the plug. Do not pull by the wires, as you may break them. (If you break the security clip, it’s OK). Using long-nose pliers will make this process easier.

Next, hide the Keyless control box in the cavity under the passenger side taillight, by bend the plastic / carpeted panel back and putting the control box in there. Have the multi-pin connector already fitted and connector facing downwards. Then feed just the 3 wires with the round plug, through the rear trunk wall towards the actuator, leaving the other cables loose under the control box.

Plug the round Keyless entry transceiver plug into the round wire plug that was previously connected to the trunk lock actuator.

.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you line the two plugs up correctly as you connect them. There are two flat surfaces inside the plugs.

.

Tie up any excess wires (except the yellow wire) in a loop and fix with the pull-tie provided. The yellow wire is the antenna. Stretch it out straight along with the other wires that lead toward the lock actuator. The Blue 15A fuse will likely never blow, but you can install it in such a way, it is still visible and accessible.

Re-mount the actuator on the rear trunk wall with the two 8 mm screws.

Re-connect the car battery or install the fuse # C if to took it out.

Close the doors, hood and trunk on your car and hold the lock button down for about 5 seconds. (This sets the key code).Push the Lock button on the same remote a second time for about 5 seconds, and the car will lock. You should hear the electrical relays clicking in the Keyless control box when operated with the remote. If nothing happens, press the UN-LOCK button, and commence again.

If you are installing Parking Light confirmation and Flashing Security LED options, do this before re-installing the rear wall trunk interior plastic / carpet cover.

IMPORTANT: At first, only one remote control will work until the second remote is programmed with the same key code. Either remote can be the first to be initiated, and either remote can be the second programmed with the key code of the first remote.

PROGRAMMING SECOND REMOTE: To program the second remote to function, you need to hold the LOCK button on the working remote down for 15 seconds. Then hold the LOCK button on the new remote down for 5 seconds. Then push the LOCK button on the new remote a second time. The car should lock. Both remotes should now have the same electronic entry key code.

USING YOUR KEYS:  If you LOCK or UN-LOCK the car with your MB mechanical key, you may have to push the UN-LOCK and then the LOCK buttons on the remote to cycle the system, as it sometimes gets confused if you use the mechanical key.

If you should ever have a problem with the system, simply remove the fuse “C” for 10 seconds and then re-install, or disconnect your car battery, and re-connect, this will re-initiate the vacuum pump & keyless entry systems.

SECURITY NOTE

A)Providing your Factory alarm is installed and operational, this Aussie Keyless entry Mark III system activates the factory alarm in the car in all models, except the 300TE/TDstation wagons. You can still activate the factory alarm, including on the station wagons, by locking your car with your regular MB key. (The Aussie keyless Mark IV model will control the factory alarm on a 300TE/TD wagon).

B)The red button on the remote is NOTa panic button. It is for other remote programming Functions, not required on this MB keyless entry only conversion.

C) The Trunk-Pop button on the remote is used as a finder to flash the parking lights if feature is installed
