AUSSIE PLUG-IN KEYLESS ENTRY UPGRADE
.
Install instructions
.
Keyless entry with outputs for the optional Parking light Confirmation, & Security LED.
This keyless entry system will NOT activate the MB factory alarm on a Station Wagon.
To install you will need the following tools:
- Small flat head screwdriver (Jewelers type), to remove plastic grommets in trunk/tailgate.
- 8mm wrench or pliers are necessary to remove two screws on the lock actuator.
- Long-Nose pliers and Flash Light are handy, but not necessary.
.
# 1-Lock Actuator and round Plug #2-Alarm Plug (also round) #3-Keyless box mounted on relay
.
.
FIRSTLY, Disconnect the car battery, or remove fuse “C’ which controls the central locking.
300TE/TD Wagon Models:
Remove the carpeted rear interior lining of the tailgate by first removing the rear window brake light assembly as if you were changing the light globe. The mount of the window brake light fixture remains in place. Remove the plastic surround around the pull strap and door handle which is secured with a round expansion grommet. Open the tailgate and on the underside, remove the nine small Philips head plastic screws. These screw into the center of expansion grommets, which you now pull out with a small screwdriver. Keep all the parts, 18 pieces in all. The carpeted rear panel is further secured with four pressure clips hidden from behind, which you pry off with a blunt butter knife or long screwdriver. Once you un-clip these four clips, push the lining in an upward direction and it will un-clip from the window. If the tailgate lining won't easily un-clip from the window, just leave it hanging there, as it gives you plenty of room to work.
Now that you have the rear interior panel removed, (or hanging) you will see the trunk lock mounted in the center, and off to one side, linked by a metal rod, is the “Actuator.’ The actuator has connected to it a vacuum line (possibly yellow) and an electrical cable connection via a round plug (usually clear or black in color). You will be un-plugging this cable from the lock actuator and re-plugging it into the Aussie Keyless control box. The round plug is secured in place by a plastic security clip. (On newer models, there is no security clip and the plug is a black right angle 90-degree plug, as illustrated.) (Picture # 1)On the opposite side of the tailgate you will see a similar round plug being held in place by a white retaining tube (see picture). This is the Alarm plug. DO NOT GET the two plugs confused, as the plugs are identical. It is a good Idea to write on each plug what it is i.e.: ALARM or CENTRAL LOCKING. (Picture # 2)
Start by removing the two 8 mm screws, which secure the lock actuator to the rear trunk/tailgate wall. (Leave the actuator in place). Now the actuator is loose and free to move around, you can un-plug the round plastic wiring plug from the actuator, There is a plastic security clip on the side of the actuator which holds the round wiring plug in place. You need to bend this clip back while trying to separate the round wire plug from the actuator. Pull on the plastic body of the plug. Do not pull by the wires, as you may break them. (If you break the security clip, it’s OK). Using long-nose pliers will make this process easier. You can also bend the security clip back with a long screwdriver.
Place the Keyless entry control box behind the wiper relay in the tailgate and secure it in place with a pull tie to the wiper relay. (Picture # 3).
Plug the CENTRAL LOCKING round plug from the Aussie Keyless control box into the round wire plug that was previously connected to the trunk lock actuator.
.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you line the plug up correctly as you connect them. There are two flat surfaces inside the plugs.
.

.
You also need to connect the BLACK negative cable to the any of the metal screws mounted in the chassis. This could be the rear window wiper motor mount screws or the .ground terminal screw with multiple brown wires connected to the left side of the window defroster element. (The 8mm actuator mount screws you loosened before do NOT make a good ground connection).
If you are installing Parking Light confirmation and Flashing Security LED options, do this before re-installing the tailgate interior carpet cover.
IMPORTANT: At first, only one remote control will work until the second is programmed with the same key code. Either remote can be the first to be initiated, and either remote can be the second remote programmed with the key code from the first remote.
PROGRAMMING SECOND REMOTE: To program the second remote to function, you need to hold the LOCK button on the working remote down for 20 seconds. Then hold the LOCK button on the new remote down for 10 seconds. Then push the LOCK button on the new remote a second time. The Car should lock. Both remotes should now have the same electronic entry code.
USING YOUR KEYS: If you LOCK or UN-LOCK the car with your MBZ mechanical key, you may have to push the UN-LOCK and then the LOCK buttons on the remote to cycle the system, as it sometimes gets confused if you use the mechanical key.
If you should ever have a problem with the system, simply remove the fuse “C” for 10 seconds and then re-install, or disconnect and re-connect the battery. This will re-initiate the vacuum pump and keyless system.
SECURITY NOTE
A) Because the alarm activation in a wagon is different to that of a sedan trunk lock, this Aussie Keyless system will NOT activate the factory alarm in the car in the station wagon models 300TE/TD. You can still activate the factory alarm, including on the station wagons, by locking your car with your regular MB key.
B) The red button on the remote is NOT a panic button. It is for other remote programming Functions, not required on this MB keyless entry only conversion.
C) The Trunk-Pop button on the remote is used as a finder to flash the parking lights if feature is installed.
